How Flooring Has Changed
You may have heard that today’s flooring is higher-quality than what was used in the past. The reason is because of advances in technology. Today, you can get a budget-friendly floor that will stay attractive for a long time.
Floors Now Use Greener Materials
Many businesses are interested in helping the environment and staying green. That is especially true in the flooring industry. For example, companies are trying not to use as many volatile organic compounds (VOCs). That has resulted in a few changes to the industry.
That also means that after having new floors installed, you are less likely to be at risk for health issues resulting from the material. The goal is to reduce the impact on the environment, while offering better solutions for you and your family. New types of concrete and other green materials also are being researched.
Installation Guidelines Have Changed
In the past, there was not much oversight over the way floors were installed. The installers were professionals, but they often only learned through experience. However, as flooring became more complex, installers needed to get more training to properly install the materials.
Later, ASTM International, and other organizations created standards for installers to follow for both industrial and residential buildings. They also introduced moisture testing, which makes sure there are no moisture issues during installation.
New Floors Are Longer-Lasting
In the past, customers could choose between flooring that would last and flooring that would fit their budget. However, that is no longer the case. Today, flooring does not need to get replaced as often, and there are many types of flooring that will fit the budget. Plus, the maintenance is usually relatively easy.
For instance, consider laminate flooring. It has a fiberboard core that has seen many improvements recently. Laminate will easily hold up under heavy use, and you can use it confidently.
Better Designs Are Available
In the past, you could often tell if a floor was made from cheaper materials, such as laminate. However, it now is hard to tell just by looking at the floor. It is easy to get affordable, practical floors that also look beautiful. Whether you want to imitate the look of wood, stone, or another material, it is easy to do so.
The reason for this is that today’s printing looks more realistic. That means that flooring comes with a better resolution. Plus, it is easier to find textured types of flooring, which add a whole level of detail. No matter what kind of floor you would like to have, it is easy to create it, no matter what your budget is.
You also have more types of flooring materials to choose from than in the past, including:
- Stone Plastic Composite
- Engineered Wood
Of course, in the future, flooring will likely make more leaps forward. But with today’s innovations, you can easily find beautiful, long-lasting floors that will also fit in your budget.
